it's easy, chasing the tail; and it never gets old

2012-2022 VELOCITODDLER / VERY SMALL SHOES

Velocitoddler / Very Small Shoes was a unisex kidswear project I singlehandedly ran from 2012-2022. In its later years, I created the artwork, had it printed on GOTS-certified organic cotton, designed the clothing patterns, cut and sewed every garment by hand. I sewed thousands of pairs of soft-soled shoes, created from small cuts of fabrics from fabric shops and thrift stores. I focused on storytelling, often illustrating subjects that were locally rooted, such as the silhouettes the dinosaurs that were found in New Mexico and a summer wet clothes line that was made of images I took around Albuquerque, NM.

Included in this portfolio are examples of clothing, shoes, as well as design work and images from our pop-up booth and brick-and mortar, which was located in east Nob Hill from 2016-2018.

While working from upcycled materials offered moments of awe in connecting with old fabrics, I most enjoyed the phase of this project where I illustrated my own fabric. Block printing and working with charcoal, gouache, and pen are the mediums most dear to me, mediums that I made messes with before Velocitoddler/Very Small Shoes and continued to make messes with after.
